Transport Minister Arpád Érsek (Most-Híd) has abolished tenders for running trains on two short tracks and decided the state carrier ŽS Slovensko will continue to have a monopoly position on almost all lines until 2030. The coalition party SNS opposes competition to the state carrier. Tenders will be held only for two minor lines, with one train per hour: Rajec-Žilina and Moldava nad Bodvou-Košice. A new tender will also be held for the Bratislava-Komárno line, where Czech RegioJet’s contract will run out in 2020.
