Minimum wage at €623
Labor Minister Milan Krajniak will propose that the government set the 2021 minimum wage at €623. This is 57% of last year’s average wage, among the highest shares in the world (it is 37% in Germany and 44% in Czechia). Legislation approved by the previous government is set to hike the minimum wage from the current €580 to €656, or 60% of the 2019 average wage. Labor unions protest Krajniak’s proposal, demand the €656, and they even left the tripartite meeting on Monday. Krajniak warns he might expand the tripartite to include other workers’ representatives.
After companies and labor unions voiced their discontent, Krajniak withdrew his proposal to set a special minimum wage for young people at 70% of the standard level. Fees for night and weekend work will be set as a fixed sum and not as a share of the minimum wage.
