Chaotic changes of rules on waste treatment and landfilling
The government is chaotically changing the rules on waste treatment and landfilling. Last week, parliament approved Hlas’ proposal to push back the obligation to sort municipal waste before landfilling by two years to 2027. Also last week, the government okayed a directive massively increasing landfill fees for untreated waste. Yesterday, though, the government dropped the increased fees. The result is investment uncertainty for municipalities and waste companies, punishment of responsible municipalities investing in waste treatment and further environmental degradation. Investors in waste incinerators may benefit.
