The state will keep the prices of electricity, gas and heat for households at the current level in 2025, PM Robert Fico announced. Cheap electricity will be supplied by Slovenské elektrárne and the state budget has allocated €280m for gas and heat subsidies. This year, the government will spend €1.3bn on the subsidies, but market gas prices have fallen and the government has excluded state firms MH Teplárenský holding and SPP from the compensations. They will take a €28m hit on their profits.
The opposition parties have criticized that the across-the-board subsidies will also help wealthy households and do not promote savings. Economy Minister Denisa Saková unconvincingly claims that targeted aid will be set next year.
