Government aims to call €2.5bn tenders for 40 km of highways in northern Slovakia this year
Transport Minister Jozef Ráž wants to call €2.5bn tenders for 40 km of highways in northern Slovakia this year, which could kick-start a construction boom. In May, he wants to launch a tender for two more lanes of the D3 Čadca, Bukov-Oščadnica section with the Horelica tunnel (4 km; €200m). This is to be followed in July by the D3 Kysucké Nové Mesto-Oščadnica section (11 km; €400m) and later in the summer by the D1 Turany-Hubová section (14 km; €1.7bn). In September, a tender for Žilina, Brodno-Kysucké Nové Mesto (11 km; €500m) is due to start. Completion dates depend on the quality of tender preparation and the number of comments/appeals. The high number of concurrent tenders increases the risk of cartels.
