Government wants minimum health levy

Last week, the government approved legislation that introduces a minimum health levy, €33 a month in 2023. Now, employees pay health levies from their actual income, and if they earn little (e.g. work part-time), they do not pay for health insurance. The Health Ministry expects the measure to bring €20m extra for health insurers annually. The minimum levy for those for whom the state pays levies (e.g. students and pensioners) will bring insurers an additional €500-700m.
