Housing construction plummeted last year
Just 17,600 dwellings were completed in Slovakia last year, 16% fewer than in 2023 and the fewest since 2017, ŠÚ reported. Only 15,300 dwellings were started, 22% fewer annually and the fewest in 11 years. A quarter of last year's completions were in and around Bratislava. In addition to higher mortgage rates, the decline in housing construction is probably also due to a declining population.
