Ikea plans to invest €77m over five years in its factory in Závažná Poruba near Liptovský Mikuláš. It employs 530 people there, and their number will increase to 710. Production output will increase 2.5 times, and sales should rise from the current €75m to €230m annually. The plant makes wooden furniture, but upon the project’s completion will switch to furniture made of fiberboard and chipboard.
Ikea also has production plants in Malacky and Trnava. All three have been in the red recently; last year they lost €4m on €200m sales. Its logistics center in Malacky has annual sales of €580m.
