Incompetent NDS
The early termination of the Višňové highway tunnel contract with the Salini-Dúha consortium is due to the incompetence of NDS, a national highway company, and conflicts over the construction of adjacent sections, says Dúha owner Miroslav Remeta. Work on the tunnel stopped almost two years ago and basic maintenance has not been carried out. Remeta says Višňové was the fastest bored tunnel in Slovakia. He says conflicts with NDS arose when it issued an order after contract signing to redesign the highway in line with new norms, but refused to pay for the changes. Salini’s Italian managers did not have personal relationships with NDS, which smooths work for all local companies. An international committee is now trying to resolve the dispute between NDS and the consortium, and the case is likely to end up in a court of arbitration.
