New Covid-19 containment measures: high schools and restauratns are closed
Health Minister Marek Krajčí (OĽaNO) announced new Covid-19 containment measures: as of October 15, all mass events and gatherings over six people are banned, with the exception of six sports leagues (football, ice hockey, volleyball, handball and basketball; no spectators are allowed). Church services are banned too. Restaurants are only allowed to serve meals outdoors and provide delivery services. Gyms, wellness centers, and swimming pools will close. Stores and shopping centers will remain open (15 sqm per person) but only seniors will be allowed between 9-11 am. High schools must switch to online teaching; elementary schools and kindergartens remain open. In cities, face masks are mandatory outside. The police will step up checks of compliance and will issue fines. The government is yet to announce new compensations and the existing assistance schemes remain in place. The new restrictions will be lifted once the moving median of new cases falls under 500. It stands at 1,037 now.
