Priority list of rail track investments is ready
Transport Minister Andrej Doležal (Sme rodina) together with Železnice SR and the Value for Money unit prepared four categories of priority rail tracks in the greatest need of investments. Expensive high-speed lines will no longer be among priorities, unlike smaller repairs of busy tracks, mainly around Bratislava and Košice. Only 30% of the priority projects are ’shovel-ready’, though. On the contrary, a number of projects with negative benefits are well-prepared. ŽSR is demanding €8bn for investments by 2030, or €800m per year. The state is likely to allocate €400m annually, up from the current €250m. Doležal will now prepare a specific investment plan.
