The average price of apartments in regional capitals topped €3,000 per sqm in February and has doubled over the past seven years, RÚ data show. Over the same period, nominal wage growth was 58%. The growth was driven by cheap mortgages, the preference of Slovaks to own property, investment demand, a shortage of new apartments, and a general rise in prices and wages. The growth of property prices will continue; in January-February they rose by 2%.
