Real estate cadaster ÚGKK was hit by the worst cyber attack in Slovakia’s history
The real estate cadaster ÚGKK was hit by the worst cyber attack in Slovakia’s history, sources tell zive.sk. Its electronic services have been offline since Monday, and all branches remain closed today. The Interior Ministry confirmed that ÚGKK is facing a ransomware attack by hackers. It is not yet clear if and when the state will be able to restore property ownership data from backups. Zive.sk sources say ÚGKK lacks comprehensive backups, some data may be irretrievably lost in digital form, and data recovery may take weeks or months. Hackers reportedly are demanding a seven-figure dollar amount to restore access to the data. Even after paying, the state can’t be sure that it would get the data back. This is set to prevent any real estate transfers for a long time.
