The annual price growth in retail chains forming the Samo alliance (Billa, Kaufland, Lidl, Metro, Tesco, dm drogerie markt and Terno) is significantly lower compared to that reported by the statistics office ŠÚ. Their food prices were 13.5% higher in May, while the ŠÚ reported 21.9%. The rise in food prices in Samo stores was at the EU average of 12.5%. According to Samo, the ŠÚ does not take into account sales promotions and discounts via loyalty programs, with stores selling 50% of goods under promotions and discounts. (teraz.sk)
ŠÚ responded that its figures reflect reality and are based on the prices that are actually paid, i.e. including discounts.
