Slovak banks posted ROE of 10%
Slovak banks posted a return on equity (ROE) of 10% last year, compared to the EU median of 13.7%, data from the European Banking Authority show. Slovak banks' profitability was at EU levels in 2023, but since last year banks have been paying a special tax of 30% on their gross profits. Slovak banks were thus the least profitable in the EU after Germany, France and Ireland. In Czechia the ROE was 15% last year, in Poland 17% and in Hungary even 20%.
