Slovakia has the third highest gap between the capital and other regions, according to the EU's Regional Competitiveness Index. Bratislava is among the TOP50 most competitive regions in the EU, while eastern Slovakia is in the 50 worst regions. The index assesses economic performance, corruption, eGovernment, as well as the quality of healthcare, roads and education. Slovakia is one of the few countries that saw its competitiveness erode between 2019 and 2022.
