Following the reforms of courts and hospitals, the coalition party Sme rodina decided to thwart the planned reform of national parks too. Within this reform, Environment Minister Ján Budaj (OĽaNO) wants to transfer state land in the national parks under his ministry, which would reduce logging and lead to job losses in underdeveloped regions. Budaj argues new jobs will be created in the tourism sector. Sme rodina is ready to back the reform after all national parks complete land zoning, a process that would specify where logging is allowed and which areas can be developed.
