Volvo and US Steel may quadruple power consumption in Eastern Slovakia
The new Volvo car factory in Košice, which will produce only electric cars, will be a large consumer of electricity, points out Karol Galek, Deputy Economy Minister. If the U.S. Steel Košice steel mill switches to electric arc furnaces, power consumption in eastern Slovakia will increase 3-4 times. This will require massive investments in the power grid, totaling several billion euros and taking 10-15 years to complete.
Galek hopes Slovenské elektrárne will start putting fuel into the third bloc of the Mochovce nuclear power plant by the end of summer.
